Conclusion
I got some questions concerning the conclusion, in particular the quotation
- We shall include “text phrases” as quotations, therefore we do not have to input a specific format of MAXQDA as quotation?
- Is there a specific quotation style prefered to reference the material (e.g. APA)? In particular I am not expierenced to include references to interviews
- We have to choose one research question refering to episodic volunteering. We only consider then information from sources dealing with this topic?
Thanks!
It is perfectly acceptable to include quotes from the sources to illustrate your points. In fact this is a common way of supporting your conclusions. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘the format of MaxQDA’. Could you give me an example?
Data sources are cited differently than published works. You can attribute quotations from your data sources to the document names you were given (e.g., Mi02).
According to slide 6 from the coding exercise slides, you should draw conclusions on one of the two research questions (the research questions are found on slide 24). You may choose to answer whichever research question you feel your material has given you the greatest insight into. Further details about the conclusion (format, length) can be found on slide 7.
As an example:
Are we required to make a direct quotation like “nice way to introduce people, so and they start as episodic volunteer…” (Source Rz99)
or
is there a specific function in MAXQDA that somehow export the text, including coding in the required format for our conclusion.
We are not required to include quotes for each point of our conclusion?
There are two ways in which information from sources is commonly included: a summary of prevalence:
And direct quotation:
Your conclusions are of course more compelling if they are backed by evidence.
There are functions in MaxQDA for getting an overview of the material, for instance the quote matrix which will tell you document source, code, and the quote which was coded; code relations, which gives you the co-occurrence of different codes; code variables, which tells you how common a code is; and more.
