Error Using MAXQDA 12
Hi all!

I’m trying to import the list of codes from (Coding Exercise #1/example/Patterns_Code_System.mtr) but I get an error when importing that file:
“MAXQDA can’t open the chosen file. The file may be already opened, or it has the wrong file format, or it may be broken”.

Does anyone else had/have the same problem, and knows by chance how to solve it?

@OSRG: What can I do if this error persists?

I’m using the last version 12.0.2 from a Windows 7 OS

Thanks!

Edit: I realized this is not relevant for the homework, but I just wanted to import the Codes of the example

I copied it to another folder and renamed it. For me, this solved the problem.

Same problem.
Could you fix it?

Does your path have spaces in it?

I changed the name as well as the location for maxqda12, didn’t work .
But it worked fine in MAXQDA 11.

In my case none of the solutions worked (rename file, simplify path). But it worked on the MAXQDA11 version.

Does not work for Mac OS ;(

I have uploaded a .mex file to StudOn which contains nothing more than an import of the codes. I do not know if this will help.

Opening the empty project mex file results in the following error message :

The chosen file has been created with an old version of MAXQDA 11 and cannop be opened. Please update the MAXQDA 11 installation and open the project file again with MAXQDA 11 to update the file.

Did anyone have success so far?

Which version and release did you use? I’ve seen this or a similar error, when I tried to open a .mex file created with MaxQDA 12 with an older release of MaxQDA 11 and the solution was to update to release 11.1.1, which you would do through ‚?‘->‚Search for updates‘.

I am using (or more precisely trying to do so) version 12.0.2
I also tried to use maxqda 11 which results in an “expired license” error although it was the first start of the application.

… I’ve opened it with 12.0.2 without problems. Not sure what the problem is here. I’ve created a .mex file with 12.0.2 now and uploaded it to studon. Give that one a try please. It is called EmptyProject_MaxQDA_12_0_2.mex

unbelievable, it worked
Thanks!

PS: The software seems to be kind of buggy with its own file formats…

Yes, there seems to be serious incompatibility between version 11 and 12, and Mac and Windows. We were unaware of the Mac/Windows problems and the version issue only came to light about two weeks before the exercise was scheduled. We are also unhappy about it and have been talking with them about our problems but cannot expect a resolution in time for this class.
