Exercise #2 documents A - Codebook Application
Hi everybody,
I have three questions concerning the codebook:
- Is it correct to code a paragraph or section with two different codes? In the specific example they are talking about a “Code of Conduct”. In my opinion it is both an practice and a requirement to contributers.
- At some episodic “are” codes that “This code should be used in conjunction with one of the episodic > type codes”, but there is no information about the type within the paragraph. Is this should an recommendation or an requirement?
- There is a fair amount of text that is not coded, since it would require other codes to code the information contained.
Thanks for a short hint.
Yes, it is completely possible that more than one code may apply to a section of text.
Usually there will be some indication of the context in preceding paragraphs or in a question. If it can be derived from surrounding material you should use the type code. However, sometimes it will not be possible to determine the type and in this case it is a recommendation.
Indeed, this is often the case, as some material will pertain to other research questions.
